What To Expect During Your First Appointment

WHAT TO EXPECT
Before Your 1st Cancer Centre AppointmentIn-Person:
- Fill out or read the "My Health History" worksheet from our Patient Guide (page 46)
- Collect all of your medications to bring with you (or write out a detailed list)
- Expect a call from an Oncology Nurse the day before your booked appointment to go over your health history
- Fill out Your Symptoms Matter at a computer kiosk or online 24 hours in advance

Over the Phone:
- Fill out or read the "My Health History" worksheet from our Patient Guide (page 46)
- Have your medications ready to read out over the phone
- Expect a call from an Oncology Nurse the day before your online appointment to go over your health history
- Fill out Your Symptoms Matter online 24 hours in advance
During Your 1st AppointmentIn Person:
- Check in at the main registration desk with your health card
- If you haven't already, fill out Your Symptoms Matter at a kiosk
- Meet with the Oncology Nurse

In Person or Virtual:
- Have your medical information checked over. You will be asked questions about how you are feeling, symptoms and changes to your health.
- Meet your Medical/Radiation Oncologist
- Discuss the best treatment plan for you
- Ask questions to your health care team
- A follow-up might be needed to confirm the details of your cancer care plan
After Your 1st Appointment- Write down any questions you still have
- Your team will tell you the next steps in your care plan
- You may be called to book a follow up visit or treatment
- You may be asked if you want to see a supportive care teammember
- For some, a plan might be made to have you see a community care team (nurses, doctors, palliative care)
At Follow Up Visits- Check in at the main registration desk
- Fill out Your Symptoms Matterat a kiosk or online (24 hours in advance)
- Meet in person or over the phone with your Oncology Nurse or Oncologist again
- Ask questions if you are not clear on what your doctor or nurse is telling you
