Is hospice care different than palliative care?
Yes, hospice care is different than palliative care.
At some point in time, it may not be possible to cure or treat an illness. As a patient, you may also decide to stop treatment for your illness. When treatments for an illness or health problem are stopped, and you are nearing the end of your life, hospice care is available. It focuses on the care, comfort and quality of your life while you are nearing end-of-life.
Hospice and palliative care often overlap. You may see a palliative care team while in a hospital and then transition (or move) to hospice care in the community. Like palliative care, hospice care still provides comfort with a focus on quality of life.
