Scenes from the Class of 1968 tour...
Stories and memories filled the halls as the KW Hospital School of Nursing’s class of 1968 returned for a tour of Waterloo Regional Health Network’s KW Campus.
The 21 returning graduates spent much of their time in the Kaufman building. It was their residence while they took part in three years of nursing education.
WRHN vice president of clinical services and chief nursing executive Judy Linton greeted the tour group. She provided each member a rose as part of their welcome.
In addition to the Kaufman building, the nurses toured the Grand River Regional Cancer and parts of the KW Campus main hospital building.
“The old nurses’ residence brings back memories of entering it as nervous, naïve girls and leaving three years later as confident, competent nurses,” said Elaine Walker of the graduates.
“KW graduate nurses had a reputation as being excellent at their job, and it was easy to find work as new graduates. Many stayed in the area, but others have worked in other parts of Canada and the USA; many in leadership roles.”
The tour wrapped up with the nurses making a donation to Waterloo Regional Health Network Foundation’s campaign to replace WRHN’s magnetic resonance imaging scanner. WRHN Foundation president and CEO Tracey Bailey thanked the group for their donation, and their years of service in health care.
It was a pleasure welcoming back the Class of 1968, and we thank them for including WRHN in their reunion celebrations!
