Laurie McGrath from Grand River Hospital’s environmental services department has won the hospital’s latest award of excellence, recognizing her hard work and dedication to patients.
Laurie has worked at GRH since 2012. She currently supports the eighth floor medicine unit at the KW Campus.
Laurie’s nominator recognized her for meeting the hospital’s values in the following ways:
Compassion: Laurie is always chatting with patients as she cleans their rooms. She is always polite and smiling. Some of our patients who have come in and out of the hospital several times will even ask about her because she is always so pleasant.
Collaboration: Laurie works well with all of the nursing staff. She helps out promptly when we need assistance from environmental services.
Positive attitude: Laurie is always smiling no matter how hard she works.
Professionalism: In one situation as an example, Laurie saw a family member come out of a patient’s room who was isolated. He still had all the personal protective equipment on to avoid spreading an infection.
Laurie very calmly approached him and explained that all equipment was to be removed before leaving the room and explained why. The family member was very thankful for the information.
Respect: Laurie is always respectful to whoever she comes across during her day. In the above circumstance she never once made the family member feel disrespected.
Her nominator added, “I love it when I see that Laurie is working. I know she will always greet us with a smile and we know that all of the environmental services for our unit will be completed with the utmost diligence. Laurie is a very hard worker. I often see her doing orientation for new environmental services staff. I know my day will fly by when Laurie is on!”
Congratulations Laurie and thank you for your dedication to the hospital community and the patients and families we serve!
