St. Mary’s General Hospital and Grand River Hospital partner on joint redevelopment project
Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital welcome the provincial government’s $5 million planning grant in the 2022 Ontario budget. This investment allows our two organizations to advance to the next phase of planning to build a new joint acute care facility and expand existing facilities in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
Waterloo Region is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada. The population we serve in partnership with Cambridge Memorial Hospital and our health system partners will only increase over time. This planning grant allows us to build for our future.
Our organizations have a shared vision to build a new hospital, improve aging infrastructure, continue to provide quality health care and create a health system of care for our community and our frontline staff. The planning grant included in today’s provincial budget will enable our hospitals to build on a long history of partnership to continue developing a plan for future hospital infrastructure in Kitchener-Waterloo. Next steps include starting engagements to further identify the services our community needs, the best locations for these services, and how to deliver this project on the fastest timeline.
Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital are committed to an innovative, integrated, and collaborative approach to health care in our region, while preserving the independence of both organizations and maintaining our unique histories and cultures.
