As 2022 comes to a close, the team at Grand River Hospital has much to reflect on and celebrate. While this year wasn’t without challenges, team members across the hospital have continued to illustrate their dedication to our community by delivering exceptional care every day.
Below are a few stories we were pleased to share with our community this year. These highlights are by no means a full list of the great work our team has done, they great examples of how we have brought our strategic plan and priorities to life and show our corporate values in action.
Delivering a world class experience for our patients and families
- In late 2021, GRH underwent accreditation and this year we celebrated being awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada, their highest award and a first for GRH
- GRH was recognized through several awards this year including being named one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes Canada; being chosen as Business of the Year; and selected as one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers
- GRH honoured Black voices during Black History Month, celebrated the 2SLGBTQIA+ community during Pride month and recognized September 30 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in support of Indigenous communities
- Once again, the generosity of our community allowed us to enhance the care we provide
Partnering to create a world class health system
- In June, GRH and St. Mary’s General Hospital jointly announced we are working together to plan for the future of hospital-based services to meet the needs of the growing community of Waterloo Region and beyond
- In the spirit of welcoming all, GRH is now using Voyce, a translation service that employs professional medically trained language interpreters to empower and connect patients and care teams to communicate effectively and with confidence in over 250 languages
- In February, GRH opened a vaccine clinic for refugees and continues to provide a valuable service to our community by operating the new regional COVID, cold, and flu clinic
Innovating and transforming the way we deliver care
- We’re making GRH a preferred destination for learners through many initiatives, including our clinical extern program.
- GRH and SMGH are partnering on a patient portal pilot project, which launched this fall. As part of this pilot, patients at six clinics can access some of their health information online. This pilot project will continue in 2023 and we hope to expand later next year.
- Our Innovation and Research team has led the way with new innovative partnerships and projects from a first-of-its-kind hip replacement surgery to adding a device that is designed to produce higher-resolution images for improved patient monitoring and faster, more accurate diagnosis to its intensive care unit (ICU).
- Our skilled team specializing in geriatric care set out to improve its services in 2022 through the pilot launch of consult services, virtual post-discharge follow up services, geriatric research and launching HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program).
