How Grand River Hospital is prepared for novel coronavirus and general information (Novel Respiratory Virus 2019-nCoV) - updated March 5, 2020 – 1:00 pm

Ontario's health care system is going through a transformation with the introduction of health teams to manage local care and hospitals, as the cornerstone, need stability. The Ontario Hospital Association recently released a report that highlights Ontario hospitals as the most efficient and effective in Canada. Waterloo Wellington hospitals perform even better.

Congratulations to staff in our Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit for winning the GRH Award of Excellence for their professionalism and positive attitude during a particularly challenging situation. 

Staff in Grand River Hospital's operating room have come together to teach first year medical students how to ‘scrub in’ – the process of scrubbing, gowning, and gloving – for a surgery to help them get ahead and have the best learning experience while observing at our hospital.

Grand River Hospital works closely with the McMaster Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and the Centre for Family Medicine to train 250 medical residents each year. In honour of Resident Awareness Week, we asked some of our Waterloo Region residents why learning and practicing medicine in our hospital is important to them.

Grand River Hospital is experiencing an increase in the demand for care with a higher than average number of patients coming to our emergency department. At the same time, we are still seeing emergency cases and are often operating with more patients than beds. To help you avoid a hospital visit when you don’t need to be here, we have some tips and resources to help you get the care and comfort you need.

Grand River Hospital is now offering a pet therapy program to benefit patients in the children’s and mental health programs. 

With over 25 friends and colleagues in attendance, Dr. Peter Kuhnert was greeted by warm smiles and a round of applause as he accepted the Grand River Hospital Award of Excellence for his contributions to our mental health and addictions program.
