Title: Advancing exceptional care for children through music therapy...
(music playing)
My name is Laura Teutsch, and I'm a music therapy intern here in the children's inpatient and outpatient clinics.
I always thought I was going to be a music teacher but I started to realize that I wanted to do something more related to music and health. And I eventually discovered that music therapy existed, and I did my research and decided that's what I wanted to do.
For children here at the hospital, by offering music psycho-therapy, I can offer them a way to express how they feel about being in the hospital. Sometimes, children can find it scary or anxiety inducing, and music can be a very effective way to have a voice for those emotions that may not be able to be expressed verbally.
I love to see children gain a voice that they may not have known they had. They're gaining control over their situation and they're able to express themselves. I also love seeing parents who see their child who may not be doing so well, may not be feeling so well... parents see this positive side, this energetic side of their child as they express themselves through music.
